Without a Design System, it's every element for itself—buttons defy orders, fonts go off-script, and layouts go rogue!

Large projects with repetitive patterns can significantly benefit from a Design System. For example, in the ACI Payhub Portal—a massive project involving over 14 different applications integrated into a single global setup with user dashboards—a Design System proved essential. Instead of designing each flow individually (14 applications x 20 pages each), we focused on creating reusable UI elements that could be applied across various pages and functionalities.

For instance, a table is a table, and a dropdown is a dropdown—there’s no need to design these elements more than once. However, some projects, particularly smaller, white-labeled B2C e-commerce platforms, require a more user-friendly and modern Design System. These projects benefit from flexibility, allowing clients to customize key CSS elements according to their unique branding needs, such as different color schemes, font libraries, or even preferences for rounded corners. By building in this flexibility, we empower clients to adapt the system while maintaining consistency and efficiency.

Not all Design Systems are created equal~For Ex. Data Analytics Style Guides.

As the sole UX designer in a healthcare data analytics company, one of my top priorities was to design and deliver a comprehensive web data analytics style guide. The internal client delivery team regularly interacted with clients, presenting vital data through graphs, charts, and MicroStrategy dossiers. Ensuring that this data was presented in a consistent format across the company was crucial—not only for enhancing readability but also for strengthening our brand identity. I played a key role in enforcing and teaching the style guide throughout the organization, often creating live analytic examples that allowed teams to easily copy and paste styled bullet graphs, grids, charts, tables, and more.
